Phoenix offers more than 41,000 acres of desert mountain parks and preserves, including everything from busy, difficult summit climbs to secluded, meandering valley walks.
Along North Central Avenue you will find Murphy’s Bridle Path. Both share in over 100 years of history of North Central Phoenix’s upscale neighborhoods. The Murphy Bridle Path begins at Bethany Homes Road and ends two and half miles north at the Arizona Canal. Lined with Olive and Ash trees, the Bridle Path is a well shaded dirt path perfect for a morning stroll or endurance run. You may even see a horse as the path is horse and dog friendly.
Piestewa Peak is the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. There is only one way up and it’s an extremely strenuous trail that challenging hikers will enjoy.
If you’d rather avoid the climb, the Dreamy Draw Trail is a short multi-access loop trail that provides a true Sonoran Desert experience. The trail crosses a number of desert washes and, at times, becomes somewhat rocky. Trail users will observe a wide variety of native Sonoran trees and other plant life and may encounter a glance at the resident wildlife. The springtime wildflowers may offer beautiful photo opportunities. This loop trail offers great views of Piestewa Peak.
Tucked into North Central Phoenix you will find Granada Park. Offering ample space to enjoy the outdoors whether on the playground, walking around the lake, having a picnic or riding bikes down the canal.
